Budgeting

For this project I need to think about budgeting as there are lots of things I need to buy. As I'm paying for the project myself my budget is a lot smaller than the budget would be if it was really for a fashion editorial photoshoot.

Hair

I spent £32.39 on hair for the project. I needed the hair to be very long and be able to withstand some heat as they would be styled. If I had a much bigger budget I would have bought all or some of the hair as human hair as it then could be styled with water and heat. However as this wasn't possible I instead bought kanekalon synthetic hair which is able to withstand some heat. This means they will cope with being put in heated rollers etc. It also means it can be brushed a lot and stays looking smooth and untangled.

I also spent £1.57 on feathers for the hair of the Beauty makeup

Makeup

I spent £23.80 on extra makeup items such as glitters and false eyelashes. I had most other things I needed for the makeup as it is a fashion/editorial shoot, including the silicones and cap plastic needed for the prosthetic. If this was really for a fashion/editorial shoot the makeup budget would cover the costs of the items I was using out of my kits.

Costume

I spent £33.90 on costumes as this was something that was necessary for the context if the shoot. I tried to keep it simple but if this was a real shoot for a magazine a lot more money would be spent on the clothes ans accessories and the photos are made to advertise them.

This means in total I spent £91.66 on extras for the project. I am happy with this number as I was trying to keep the costs down a lot. I know that for a real magazine photoshoot the budget would be a lot bigger than this and that means the quality of the final result would be a lot higher.

No budget will be spent on models and photographer as they are all voluntary. I will also be doing all the doing myself so no budget will be spent on this either.

Changes to Cinderella Hair

Because I was very unhappy with how the hair turned out I changed the hair design of the Cinderella look. In included making the chignon a plaited bun instead of incorporating it into the rest of the hair. This will make the hair easier to style separately and means a lot of the work is done prior to starting the makeup on the day so it saves time. I used the chignon I had already made for this look and plaited it, before expanding the plait outwards to look like the whole bun. This also makes it more in keeping with the other hair and makeups as they all have expanded, backcombed plaits.

To see if it worked I then quickly tried it in my models hair, roughly following the style I would be making for the shoot.

This is what the chignon looked like when placed in the hair with pinning the very front section of the hair back to look like a half up half down. I was happy with how natural the chignon looked by both the placing and the colour matching of the piece. For the shoot I will put the hair in rollers first to get large curls then backcomb them slightly and add small plaits throughout. I will also do a more structured pinning of the front back and possibly use that hair to make a small nest to pin the chignon too as my model has very smooth hair that doesn't hold pins too well. Additionally I will also curl some small hairs at the very front of the style in-keeping with hairstyles of the period (1810-1820) I am much happier with the look of this hair and think it looks a lot more relevant to the period style and inkeeping with the theme of my project and the rest of the makeups.

Prepping the Hair Pieces

I wanted to prep all the hair pieces as much as possible before the assessment and photography day to save time.

Rapunzel

After experimenting I had found out that the best way to get a natural wave to the synthetic hair was to tightly plait it then put a lot of hairspray on. I did this with the chignon and the two pre-made wefts and left them to dry. I will also keep them plaited until the assessment to keep them neat and in shape.

Cinderella

This is the chignon I made for Cinderella and to prep it I made it into the bun. This will save a lot of time on the day as I won't be styling it on the head. I plaited the piece and pulled out the plait to make it a lot thicker, so that it made a shape of an entire bun. I then hairsprayed this into place I will apply this straight to the head on the day.

Beauty

To prep the marteux I re-plaited it as it had got a bit messy from practicing with it twice. I plaited the piece tightly then pulled out the plait so it was a lot wider and flatter. I then hairsprayed this into place and it can now be put straight into hair without styling it on the day.
