Rapunzel - Tears

For my Rapunzel makeup my design features 3D tears on the face inspired by the end of the story where Rapunzel's tears heal her lovers eyes. I wanted to sculpt these and create them out of silicone for quite a character/cartoonish look so they stand out and are a big feature of the makeup. As I didn't know what size would work best with the makeup I sculpted and cast 3 different sizes so I could experiment and decide.

I sculpted the tears so they were quite high and very classically tear drop shaped. I also made the sides not blend into the skin too much so they would stand out more.

I did a 25% mix as I didn't want to silicone to be completely hard but I also didn't want the tears to be really soft. I used a little bit of blue silicone pigment in the mix so they were pre-coloured slightly. This slight amount of colour worked very well to give a light blue that looks like a cartoon tear and looks a lot more effective than colouring them blue externally. They didn't need to be cap plastic encapsulated as they are made to stick out from the skin and not blend in so they can be stuck on as they are in silicone. I was very happy with how these came out and I will experiment how each size works with the Rapunzel makeup before making a decision on which one I want to use.

This was a very quick size test of the three tears to see how they fitted on the face. From this I've decided I don't want to use the smallest size as it won't be noticeable enough in a fashion editorial shoot that is advertising clothes and it isn't big enough to paint gold at the bottom. I would now like to test the two different sizes with a full test of the makeup and hair to judge which one I'd like to use.
