Lighting in Fashion/Editorial Shoots

As I'm doing a fashion/editorial project in the context of a fashion magazine I felt it was important to research the lighting that is used in photoshoots. It has already been discussed with my photographer that we will be using location lighting so I wanted to look further into different types of lighting and how they can affect the makeup that's been applied. Lighting can drastically change a makeup drastically and I feel it's important to know about this before I complete my makeup and hairstyles for my photoshoot.

Beauty - Full Makeup Test

I did a final test for the Beauty makeup and hair to test out products and see the look all together. Overall I was very happy with how it turned out and I know it only needs a few more alterations to finish off the look.

Makeup

Skin

I was happy with the skin makeup for this look and feel it works well for the context. It's quite a plain look because of the impact of the other elements of the makeup however I feel that in some areas the skin needs more coverage. I also would like to add a highlighting liquid to the foundation to get a more dewy finish for the look. I also like the look of the blood however I feel there needs to be more of it so it's more noticeable in the final photos.

Eyebrows

I liked the eyebrows for this look and think they're the right colour for the skin and hair. I used the technique of putting concealer underneath and above the eyebrows to perfect them and I feel this worked very well. I'd like to get a more of a sharp tail on the end of the brow to finish off the look.

Eyes

I was happy with how the eyes looked and like the colour scheme I had chosen. I think I need to spread the glitter out slightly more but I like the impact it gives to the eye makeup and I think it match the glitter in the other looks. I was worried about the double winged liner but think it goes with the look well. It is slightly uneven on one side so the gap is smaller on the left so this is something I need to work on for the final makeup. I was very happy with how the false eyelashes went with the look and think they'll match even more when the feathers are in the hair.

Lips

The neatness of my liptsick is something I definitely need to work on for this look. As the lipstick is dark it's more obvious when mistakes are made so I need to keep a neater line. I was very happy with the colour and think it again suits the look and the context of fashion editorial. I need to use the technique of concealer to clean up the edges of the lips and make them look fuller.

Hair

To get the desired look for the hair I used hot rods. However at the time of practicing this I could only hire out one set of hot rods so could only curl half the hair (in these photos the back half of the hair is tied up) therefore I think the look will be a lot more effective when the whole head is curled and backcombed. I also pinned some of the hair at the top of the head up so that the hair was full all the way around. I think the marteux added a lot to the look without taking away the volume in the hair and I liked the look of the plait with the makeup.
